"White Awake: An honest look at what it means to be white" by Daniel Hill
This group is specifically geared towards parents, with kids at home, who are looking to explore their white identity. This is a good next step as parents invest in teaching their kids to have empathy and to treat everyone with care and respect.
Thursday evenings (July 30, August 6, August 13, August 20)
Online (leader will provide more information)
Leader Names & Bio:
- As a woman of color, my racial and ethnic identifies often overpower my other identities - when I walk into a room, I am conscious of the color of my skin. I have a degree from UW-Madison in African-American History and experience in facilitating dialogue with others on how race affects each of us. I’m excited to continue learning with others!
- I am a white female, raised in Madison. For 35 years my work has centered on children and families. I know conversations about race are hard. I am grateful for the grace-filled people, including my adult children, who have taught me along the way. I think authenticity is key as people explore race and racism so I and want to create a safe space to do this.
All participants must register separately. Participants are responsible for obtaining their own copy of the book. Please be prepared to discuss chapters 1-3 at our first meeting on July 30th.
